MediaMonkey 5 is a major release of MediaMonkey. This page summarizes some of the new features and changes.
What's New?
- A new modern look and feel
- Auto-tagging with audio-fingerprint-based lookup
- Casting to Google cast devices
- Integration with online services for synchronization, browsing and metadata lookup
- Improved search and filtering functionality
- In-place playlist editing via new playlist windows
- Auto-playlists with nested search functionality
- Improved play controls (play shuffled, shuffled by album, stop after)
- More advanced editing tools in the Preview window
- Browser modes and immersive Playing modes that display Artist, Album metadata, Lyrics
- Pinned items (Favorites)
- Database backup and restore
- Touch mode for tablets
What's different?
- The UI is now divided into configurable 'panels'. The right (Playing) and left (tree) panels can be toggled.
- The tree can be disabled entirely, if desired using breadcrumbs and 'Media Nodes' to navigate
- Devices (and services) are now configurable as 'Media Nodes'
- The 'View' switcher still switches between Views, where each View defines 'View Type', Columns & Sorts, and incorporated View Elements. Views are saved per Node (where node= Collection > Node, Collection > Node > Subnode , Now Playing, Playlists), so that for example, if you switch from Artists to Albums the View can change depending on how you configure it. (View Type defines non-configurable elements of the View).
- The Tree by default is only one level deep. If you prefer to navigate using the tree, click the ⋮ symbol in the tree, and enable 'Show all subnodes'.
- ..... Search changes (overview) + Filters
- CD Burning is no longer supported. If needed, you can use MediMonkey 4 for this.
- MediaMonkey 5 has a new addons and skinning engine. The new framework is more powerful and cross-platform, but it also means that older addons and skins will not be compatible. We expect new skins and addons to be built with time
- Winamp 'General' plugins are not compatible (input, output, DSP plugins still are)
